| The Cyclotherm
Steam and
Hot Water Package Boiler is a complete unit in a single package ready
for
installation and efficient, economical operation for either high or low
pressure steam and hot water applications. A minimum of 80% efficiency
plus saving up to 1/3 the space formerly required are peaks of advanced
design unsurpassed by any other make of package boiler.
All Cyclotherm units are designed and manufactured utilizing the simplified, proven and efficient two pass modified scotch marine boiler design - and incorporating the exclusive, patented method of Cyclonic Combustion. On 15 to 60 h.p. units, the burner shuts down when steam needs are satisfied...precision modulation controls larger units that operate from 20/30 to 100% of capacity with no loss in efficiency. Cyclotherm boilers are manufactured in one Plant to the highest standards of tolerance and A.S.M.E. quality control is made possible by creative engineering, and constant refinement of manufacturing procedures. Skilled, experienced technicians construct every unit to meet the most exacting requirements used in the United States Boiler Industry today. Each Cyclotherm measures up to every standard of true boiler value. Clean, complete burning Cyclonic Combustion limits harmful stack emissions and particulate matter. This important safety feature is in direct relation to environmental concerns shared by Cyclotherm and the Environmental Protection Agencies. Through research and development, Cyclotherm has developed a low NOX burner kit that not only leeps your boiler compliant with local emission standards, but also saves fuel during operation through increased combustion efficiency. These burner kits can be supplied with new boilers ordered or can be retrofit onto existing boilers in the field. Since the average life of a Package Boiler is assumed to be in the vicinity of 25 years under normal operating conditions, maintenance must be considered the most important cost factor. Because only one return pass is needed to gain maximum thermal efficiency, Cyclotherm eliminates the useless bulk and weight of several banks of tubes and critical expendable refractory baffles; arrangements that are required in three and four pass package boilers. Field repair expenses are constantly on the increase. Cyclotherm boilers are designed for minimum maintenance. Experience proves costs are approximately ONE THIRD the average required for three and four pass boilers, especially retubing and refractory replacement, if necessary. This saves not only maintenance dollars, but more importantly, extended costly downtime. Today, steam turbine drives are available on Cyclotherm boilers. Energy conservation has always been a prime concern of Cyclotherm engineering. This package boiler design eliminates the electrical energy normally used for the power drive. This alone represents major savings in utility costs that increase each year. Exhaust steam from the turbine drive is utilized for any steam use required, such as boiler feedwater preheating, plant process or heating, etc. |
| Cyclotherm's Patented Cyclonic Combustion | ||
| The Cyclonic Steam and Hot Water Boiler is a modified Scotch marine design operating on the exclusive, patented principle of Cyclonic Combustion. In only two passes, Cyclotherm achieves a minimum guaranteed 80% efficiency. Standard capacity ranges from 15 to 750 hp...from 15 to 200 psi. Higher design pressures are also available. |

| Cyclonic Combustion maintains perfect flame control for the diameter and length of the furnace. Combustion was photographed in the Cyclotherm boiler, an image of which is shown at the right, by merely swinging open the rear door. Ordinary boilers would require protective devices or shields for a similar demonstration showing the flame pattern. |

| 1) At a tangent, air is injected into the cylindrical combustion chamber at a velocity of up to 200 miles per hour. The air mass assumes a cyclonic shape and motion in the firetube. |

|
| 2) Seconds later, the fuel...either oil or gas...is injected into the hollow center of the air mass. Coordinated ignition then provides immediate combustion with maximum safety. |

|
| 3) After ignition, the atomized fuel vaporizes, forming a swirling vortex of flame that spirals the entire length of the furnace. A Thin layer of air separates the flame from the furnace wall. |

| 4) Cyclonic Combustion transfers approximately 65-70% of the heat through the firetube alone, with an additional 15-20% produced in the return tubes. Result: a minimum 80% efficiency. |
